PUMAHS

The PUMAHS are Arlington High School’s open Ultimate team. The PUMAHS were formed when a cadre of superb athletes and supremely talented disc slingers graduated from the excellent Ottoson Middle School Ocelots program, invaded the high school and supplanted the former loosely organized “frisbee club” in the spring of 2015.

PUMAHS compete in the Spring season as an Open team in the MAHSUL.

Logistics

The PUMAHS organize using Google Calendar, Slack and AHS email accounts; athletes will need a working knowledge of these tools to participate fully to the Team. Parents are encouraged to import the Team calendar, which is also posted to the Events page of this website.

Coaches

What is this strange piece of plastic in my hands?

Coach Simon has been coaching the PUMAHS since 2015, and got his start playing Ultimate at UVM and competed with Team Chill in the 1992 National tournament. He also competed at the Club level in Phoenix and Boston, and continues to be active in BUDA league and pickup games. As a coach, Si emphasizes growth in all aspects of the game, from technique to conditioning to community outreach, and encourages talk and intensity on defense. He is apt to share some throws and tricks that might be best kept on the sideline.

One of Massachusetts’s Coaches of the Year in 2017, Coach John got his start in Ultimate at Middlebury College in the late 80’s where his charismatic leadership and ability to throw an actual forehand got him elected team captain in both his junior and senior years. Focused primarily on coaching for the last handful of years, John does everything from teaching Ultimate to the sixth graders at the Gibbs school all the way up to coaching the Massachusetts state team at the Youth ultimate national championships (YCCs). If you’ve met John, chances are probably above 90% that he’s invited you to some sort of Ultimate related event, be it pickup, a youth team, a documentary, or just to throw the disc around.
